On Sunday, in the Wimbledon final, World No.1 Rafael Nadal beat World No.12 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. This is Nadal's second time win at the Wimbledon and 8th in the overall Grand Slam. Unfortunately he could not win the tournament in the All England Club in 2009 as he was injured.
Nadal remained aggressive and dominated Berdych throughout the game. Nadal played well and managed to confine his opponent till the very end. With his skillful and much-admired topspin and slice, Nadal defended the ground strokes delivered by Berdych.
This Spanish wonder used his spin and invented the decisive winners even during critical stages. He also managed to break Berdych's serve four times while his own serve was never affected. In the 10th game, Nadal finished the match on a spinning forehand, breaking his opponent's serve. Nadal had 93 points and Berdych had 78.
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were defeated by Berdych and in the end he made it to the finals. But Nadal was no match for him.
One of Berdych's serves was kind of shaky and the skilled Rafael Nadal didn't miss that opportunity. He broke his serve and scores went up to 4-3. This happened during the 7th game. There was no looking back for Nadal after this and he finished the match after this incident very quickly and with graceful ease.
As the match was going on, Berdych's serve became more firm but Nadal being more alert, played back every shot Berdych had to deliver. Experts quoted that the "The King of Clay looked like the Master of Grass on Sunday".
Nadal's bumps during the Wimbledon were forgotten when he proved his worth by winning at the end of the tournament. He also defeated Robin Soderling, Tomas Berdych and Andy Murray. He won all sets except one. He faced several coaching violations and a few minor injuries and played his way to glory.
In spite of all the drama and sudden surprises, Nadal seemed to be very sure of his goal. A glimpse of his passion about the game was pretty much clear after the match through his emotional outburst. After last year's heart break, a sign of relief and justification was seen on Rafael's face. He once again proved himself and even if he failed to take part last year due to his injuries, that he was till the best. This tournament was an eye opener for all those who had written him off already. World No.1 once again, Rafael Nadal is now and eight time Grand Slam winner. He is looking forward to the U.S. Open in September which will be held at Flushing in New York.
